Kota Kinabalu: A 26-year-old security guard was jailed a total of 18 months on two counts of assaulting his colleagues.

Aidi Yap pleaded guilty before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie to committing the offences on Jan 21 at 3.30am on the second floor of the Platinum Tower 1, here.

On the first count, Aidi was sentenced to 10 months’ jail for voluntarily causing grievous hurt to Titing Kaling, 36, and was handed another eight months jail on the second count of voluntarily causing hurt to Mohamad Azizat Fikri, 21.

The prosecution informed the court that on the said day, the complainants were on duty when Aidi came and asked them to open the gate.

The complainants suffered injuries due to the attack.

Duty counsel Lim Ming Zoong @ Lawrence, representing Aidi, requested a lenient sentence as he is now unemployed.

When the court asked why he attacked his colleagues, Aidi claimed that it was due to a work misunderstanding.

The court ordered Aidi to serve the sentences from the date of his arrest.

The first count under Section 325 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to seven years and liability of a fine on conviction, while the second count under Section 323 of the Penal Code provides for a jail term of up to one year jail or fine of up to RM2,000 or both, on conviction.

Meanwhile, a 35-year-old man was fined RM1,600 or three months jail for assaulting a man.

Security guard Mohd Razali Awang admitted to attacking Mohd Halwie Baharuddin, 25, on Jan 27, at 7am at Taman Ketiau, Putatan.

The charge was framed under Section 323 of the Penal Code.

The victim suffered swelling in the face and head due to the attack.

Razali was arrested by police following a report lodged by the victim’s father.
