Flag convoy strengthens APMM-community ties

Tuaran: The Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang (KMJG) serves as a platform for the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (APMM) to introduce its roles and responsibilities to the local community.

Marine Engineer Officer of KM Bendahara, LT KDR (M) Ahmad Syafiq Abdul Hamid said APMM’s involvement in the programme provided an opportunity for the agency to interact directly with the community at the various stopover locations.

“APMM’s involvement in KMJG allows us to introduce and promote maritime affairs among the people, especially those in rural areas and local communities.

“We can also hear the concerns and problems faced by the local community, especially those related to maritime and fisheries,” he said when met by the media at the Tuaran District-level Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang Launching Ceremony here on Sunday.

According to Ahmad Syafiq, APMM’s involvement in KMJG also covers several locations including Tawau and Sandakan, thereby providing greater opportunities for the agency to interact with communities in Sabah.

“Face-to-face interaction with the community, particularly when the programme was held in Kuala Penyu, allowed us to convey APMM’s vision and mission as well as obtain feedback on issues faced by the community,” he added.

Meanwhile, Ahmad Syafiq said KMJG also provided various activities through the industry, sports and community clusters, which provided exposure to the public.

He said the incorporation of historical elements and the spirit of independence throughout the programme could foster self-identity and the spirit of patriotism among the local community.

“History has been shared and the spirit has been instilled in the hearts at every level. This can further strengthen the self-identity and spirit of independence among the local community,” he added.

He hoped APMM’s involvement in KMJG could continue to bring the agency closer to the community, while also creating awareness of APMM’s role in ensuring security and enforcing laws in the country’s waters.
