Kota Kinabalu: Sabah police will continue to prioritise efforts to curb drug smuggling and trafficking in the State, said Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun.
He said the police would continue efforts to prevent drugs from entering Sabah and ensure the state is not used as a transit point by drug trafficking syndicates.
“The seizures made so far also demonstrate the results of police cooperation with other agencies to combat drug smuggling and trafficking from entering Sabah.
“We hope the agencies will continue to work with the police to address the problem of Sabah being used as a transit point by drug trafficking syndicates,” Jauteh said when met during a courtesy call on Sabah Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Musa Aman at Istana Seri Kinabalu here, Thursday.
Jauteh said the courtesy call was also aimed at introducing the new line-up of officers who would head several key departments at the Sabah Contingent Police Headquarters to Tun Musa.
He said the line-up comprised the Sabah Deputy Police Commissioner, several department chiefs and newly appointed district police chiefs.
Meanwhile, Jauteh said Sabah police was also implementing a Community Policing approach as part of efforts to educate the public, particularly the younger generation, about the dangers of drug abuse.
“We will organise several Community Policing programmes to educate the public to stay away from drug abuse and to channel information to the police if there are drug-related activities in their areas,” he said.
Also present were Deputy Police Commissioner Datuk Mohd Azhar Hamin; Criminal Investigation Department chief Mohd Hafiz Ya’acob; Logistics and Information Technology Department chief Wong Leong Meng; and Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Superintendent Yampil Anak Garai; and City Police Chief ACP Shahrudin bin Mat Husain.
