Sabah police seized over 100kg of drugs worth RM6.14 million in three August operations across Kudat, Papar and Penampang, says state police chief.

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah police seized more than 100 kilogrammes of various drugs worth RM6.14 million in three operations in Kudat, Papar and Penampang last month, Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun said today.

He said the seizures comprised 49.9 kilogrammes of cannabis and cannabis flowers worth RM3.56 million, 1.624 kilogrammes of methamphetamine worth RM81,200 and another 50 kilogrammes of methamphetamine worth RM2.5 million.

Speaking at a press conference at the Sabah Contingent Police Headquarters here, he said the largest seizure involved 50 kilogrammes of methamphetamine worth RM2.5 million in Op Bayu 14 in Penampang on Aug 25.

In the Kudat operation on Aug 20, police arrested a 35-year-old local man and his 32-year-old foreign wife, and seized 44.3 kilogrammes of suspected cannabis flowers and 5.6 kilogrammes of suspected cannabis worth RM3.56 million.

Jauteh said the drugs seized in Kudat were estimated to be enough for about 99,800 addicts for a single use, while both suspects were charged at the Kudat Magistrate’s Court on Aug 28.

In a separate operation in Papar and Penampang on Aug 19, police arrested two men and two women and seized 1.624 kilogrammes of methamphetamine worth RM81,200, believed to be intended for the Papar market.

The four suspects, aged between 35 and 42, were remanded until tomorrow, while the seized drugs were estimated to be enough for about 2,914 addicts for a single use.

In Op Bayu 14, police found 28 packages of suspected methamphetamine weighing 28 kilogrammes in a Toyota Vios and another 22 packages weighing 22 kilogrammes in a Perodua Bezza.

The drugs seized in the operation were estimated to be enough for about 1.43 million addicts for a single use, while the two local suspects, aged 45 and 46, were remanded until tomorrow.

Jauteh said all the cases were being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, adding that Op Bayu 1 to Op Bayu 14 had resulted in 41 arrests this year, with 20 individuals charged under the same provision.
