Kota Kinabalu: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor has urged housing and real estate developers in Sabah to focus on sustainability, better-planned urban centres, and affordability in their future schemes.
His speech was delivered by Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun during the Sabah Housing and Real Estate Developers Association (Shareda) Night here on Saturday.
Hajiji said developers must adopt resource-efficient construction methods, optimise land use alongside supporting amenities, and collaborate with the State Government to provide viable housing for first-time buyers and middle-income families.
Acknowledging industry challenges such as rising construction costs, infrastructure constraints, and protracted approval procedures, he stated that neither the government nor the private sector could resolve these issues in isolation.
He added that the State Government will work with relevant agencies and Shareda to streamline approval processes and bolster infrastructure without compromising safety, environmental standards, or the public interest.
