Kota Kinabalu: The legal team representing the mother of Zara Qairina Mahathir has yet to decide on taking civil action against any party, citing its immediate priority to complete written submissions for the inquest.
Counsel Shahlan Jufri said the final decision rests with their client, Noraidah Lamat, whom they will consult after focusing on the submissions following the conclusion of the 96-day proceedings.
Shahlan noted that Noraidah had sent a brief message expressing hope that matters would proceed smoothly, while also thanking the media for professional coverage alongside concurrent Children’s Court proceedings.
Addressing public speculation, Shahlan clarified that funds raised for the inquest amounted to slightly over RM200,000, dismissing claims that donations had reached RM1 million or RM2 million.
He added that the fund was independently audited, used solely for inquest-related expenses with the legal team acting pro bono, and that there is no legal obligation to publish the audit report.
