KUALA LUMPUR, May 6 — Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) and Unifi TV have been officially appointed as the broadcasters for the Fifa World Cup 2026 in Malaysia, Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil announced today.
While Unifi TV will provide live coverage of all 104 matches, RTM is set to offer free-to-air access to a significant portion of the tournament via its television channels and the RTMKlik app.
In his weekly press conference today, the minister said this partnership aims to ensure inclusive and high-quality viewing for all Malaysians across multiple digital and mobile platforms.
“The Grandstand programme will be broadcast from the Angkasapuri Kota Media, with the primary presentation in Bahasa Malaysia and several segments in English.
“Latest updates will also be shared through the Selamat Pagi Malaysia programme.
“Additionally, public viewing events will also be organised at selected locations on a modest scale to enhance fan engagement,” Fahmi said.
When asked about the costs of the broadcasting rights, Fahmi said that the government has allocated a sum of RM24 million, though he noted this is not the full amount.
He explained that the remaining costs are being offset by corporate sponsorships, which will be announced soon.
“The government also emphasises the importance of complying with anti-piracy regulations for all content related to the Fifa World Cup 2026.
“All parties are urged to play their roles responsibly, and enforcement actions will be further strengthened against any violations.
“The government hopes that the Fifa World Cup 2026 will unite the people through the spirit of sportsmanship and togetherness,” Fahmi said.
The 2026 World Cup is scheduled to run from June 11 to July 19, 2026, and will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, the first World Cup ever to be held across three countries.
