The pricing of food and drinks inside World Cup stadiums in the United States has once again sparked debate on social media.

While the World Cup has clearly been a huge success thus far, there has been a lot of talk about the price difference in American stadiums.

It has been a long running theme of this tournament and it generally provokes debate online. Some are used to such pricing structures, while others continue to rail against them.

Indeed, there was yet more criticism after an image supposedly taken at the Houston Stadium went viral on social media platform X.

Fans react to $27 hot dog in Houston

The popular account ‘Footy Scran’ which boasts over half a million followers posted a photo of what it must be said looks like a rather average hot dog at the Houston Stadium – otherwise known as NRG Stadium – during Canada’s game with Morocco in the round of 16.

They claim that the hot dog, along with a beer, would set customers back a rather huge $27, which roughly equates to £20.20.

Clearly, that is on the expensive side, particularly as the item in question does not look particularly special.

As has been a theme throughout the World Cup, fans took issue with that.

One fan posted on X: “This World Cup is a complete ripoff . . . . football is finished!”

Another said: “Appalling. No scran.”

For those who don’t know, ‘scran’ is sometimes used as slang for ‘food’ in certain areas of the United Kingdom.

Even almost a month into the tournament – the bulk of which has been played on US soil – the pricing does still seem to shock supporters not used to life in America.

Canada’s World Cup journey came to an end in Houston as they were beaten 3-0 by Morocco.

The Houston Stadium hosted seven games during the World Cup but their duties have now come to an end.
