PUTRAJAYA, Aug 21 - A former chief executive officer (CEO) of Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) arrived at the Magistrate’s Court here today for remand proceedings in connection with the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report on the institution.
The individual, who is in his 60s, arrived at 9.35 am wearing an orange Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) remand uniform.
The RCI report on TH, uploaded to the official Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) portal on July 29, recommended, among other things, that forensic audits be conducted to examine how past investment decisions were made that resulted in TH suffering severe impairment of its assets.
The RCI report, which investigated issues involving TH’s management and operations from 2014 to 2020, also listed several problematic investments requiring forensic audits.
The RCI found that there had been suspicious transactions and concealment of information.
On July 30, MACC announced the formation of a special team to review and scrutinise the RCI report for any legal issues involving elements of corruption, misappropriation, document forgery, abuse of power or money laundering under the MACC Act 2009 and the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 (AMLATFPUAA), or other related offences.
