LONDON: A court in Scotland on Tuesday sentenced former world snooker champion Graeme Dott to seven years in prison after he was found guilty of sexually abusing two children.
The 49-year-old was sentenced at the High Court in Edinburgh, where judge Sean Smith told him he had “robbed the complainers (victims) of a significant part of their childhood”.
A jury in August found Dott guilty of subjecting a girl and a boy to multiple incidents of abuse between 1993 and 2010, when they were pre-teens.
He was found guilty of two counts of lewd, indecent and libidinous behaviour after denying the charges.
Police Scotland described Dott as a “dangerous individual” following the trial.
The World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association permanently revoked Dott’s membership after his conviction.
Dott won the 2006 World Snooker Championship and was runner-up in 2004 and 2010.
