Four killed and aircraft destroyed as Ukraine launches biggest attack of the year

  • Russian forces reported intercepting 3,124 Ukrainian drones in the past week, with 1,054 destroyed on May 17, marking one of the largest aerial assaults of the year.
  • At least four people, including an Indian worker, were killed and a dozen were injured in Ukrainian drone attacks across Russia, which also saw debris affect Moscow's Sheremetyevo airport.
  • Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed the destruction of a rare £30m amphibious aircraft, a cargo vessel, and other military targets deep inside Russia, justifying these as “long-range sanctions”.
  • "We are clearly telling the Russians: their state must end its war," he wrote in a post on Telegram.
  • Russian forces continued their attacks on Ukrainian cities, including Dnipro and Odesa, injuring at least nine people in Dnipro and two in Odesa, including children.
