Kota Kinabalu: Four men were killed after the Perodua Viva they were travelling in skidded and crashed into a five-tonne lorry parked on the road shoulder at Taman Jaya Diri, Jalan Sepanggar, early Sunday.
They have been identified as Axelord Nigel Alexander, 21; Nicholas Thomas, 24; Raynniel Robin, 23; and Junior Ailyson A. Julius, 19. Acting Kota Kinabalu Police Chief Supt Syed Lot Syed Ab Rahman said the car, driven by the 23-year-old was heading from Sepanggar to Indah Permai when it lost control.
He said the accident also affected several other vehicles that were parked in front of the lorry.
“A total of five vehicles were damaged because when the victims’ car hit the lorry, the lorry moved forward and rammed into several parked cars ahead,” he said.
He urged witnesses or those with information that could assist in investigations to contact investigating officer Insp Royston at 016-313 0153 or report to the nearest police station.
Meanwhile, the Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) said it received an emergency call about the incident at 2.37am and personnel from the Kota Kinabalu Fire and Rescue Station, assisted by the Lintas Fire and Rescue Station, arrived at the scene at 2.59am and found all four victims trapped inside the vehicle.
“The firemen found that the accident involved a Perodua Viva which had skidded before crashing into a five-tonne lorry parked on the road shoulder.
“Four victims were trapped inside the vehicle, and the firemen used special rescue equipment to extricate them,” said the department in a statement.
The operation to extricate the victims was completed at 3.50am, with all four pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.
