
Kota Kinabalu: A fruitful day for the Sabah contingent as they bagged three golds, one silver and one bronze at the 21st Sukma Games on Friday.
The long awaited gold medals were delivered by wushu exponents in the sanda event held at the Dewan Wushu SSC in Petra Jaya, Kuching.
The first came from Amirah Sofea Azlan in the women’s 48kg category after she defeated Selangor’s Batrisyia Izzaty Mohd Nasir in the final. The wushu medal winners (from left) Dione, Bong, Amirah and Fyenlly.
Dione Banyline Fely followed suit with victory over Selangor’s Felicity Wong Xin Nee in the women’s 52kg before Fyenlly Himon added the third by beating Sarawak’s Bong Shen Hiu in the men’s 52kg.

“I never expected to win the gold medal today. I am very grateful to my coach Alex Fong who introduced me to sanda and also coach Safuan Amran from SMK Kanibungan Pitas as well as the officials who supported me.
“This is only my second competition as I only started around April and my first fight was in Penang which I also won gold,” she said after the final.
The wushu team has also won a silver through Ericsson Bong in the men’s gunshu event earlier in the morning. The lawn bowls women’s team members with their bronze medals.
Meanwhile, the state lawn bowls team also won a bronze in the women’s four event with a 10-7 victory over their Kedah opponents in the playoff.
They had earlier lost 9-19 to eventual winners Selangor in the semi-final held in the morning.
The state contingent first medal in the biennial games was a bronze won by Emmanuel Fo in the Tenpin Bowling men’s singles event, Thursday night.
Sabah ended the day with three golds, one silver and two bronzes in seventh position.
