MANILA, Philippines — The Gymnastics Association of the Philippines (GAP) on Wednesday condemned a recent poster of a “gymnastics training camp” supposedly hosted by resigned Ateneo de Manila University men’s basketball coach Tab Baldwin.
In a statement, GAP said this was disrespectful to the national sports association (NSA).
“The tragic loss of two talented athletes from Ateneo de Manila University has deeply shocked the Philippine sports community. We extend our deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathies to their grieving families, friends, and teammates,” GAP said.
“However, turning this tragedy into punchlines and forcing a connection to our own sport is a form of disrespect that our NSA strongly condemns,” it added.
GAP said they do not tolerate “insensitive content” and strongly called on those who encounter such posts online to report those immediately.
“While every individual is entitled to their own opinion, a clear line must be drawn when those statements contain malice or drag uninvolved parties into the situation,” the gymnastics federation said.
As of Wednesday, the Facebook post containing the poster remains online.
