KOTA KINABALU: Parti Kerjasama Anak Negeri (PKAN) gained fresh momentum ahead of the 17th Sabah Election following the entry of the Gemilang Sabah Group, led by veteran politician Datuk Jismit Japong, who brought with him about 40 independent candidates and supporters.

PKAN president Datuk Henrynus Amin said the group’s merger marked a strategic step that would strengthen the party’s grassroots base and enhance its readiness for the polls.

He said Jismit, now appointed PKAN’s Election Director, will lead the coordination of candidates, campaign efforts and machinery deployment across the state.

Henrynus said the party plans to contest at least 55 state seats, featuring a balanced mix of experienced leaders, young candidates and at least 30 per cent women representation.

He added that PKAN will contest solo in the state election, rejecting cooperation with peninsula-based parties, and will unveil its manifesto focused on Sabah rights, financial entitlements, and socio-economic progress on Oct 26 in Ranau.
