LAHAD DATU: A 1.2-tonne and almost five metre-long crocodile (pic) was captured by Civil Defence Force (APM) personnel under a water village at 8.50pm on Monday – but not before it nearly claimed the life of a child.
Dozens of residents in Kg Desa Bajau witnessed the team attempting to entangle the crocodile but fail as the crocodile was too large and aggressive, said Lahad Datu APM Officer, Captain (PA) Ahmad Roslan Kamel.
He said they received a distress call regarding the reptile at 4.38pm. The APM said their team failed to entangle the crocodile as it was too large and aggressive. (APM pic)
According to Ahmad Roslan, the crocodile nearly attacked a child who was near the scene.
APM members managed to rescue the child.
“Seven shots were fired at the crocodile and it was later confirmed dead. It was handed over to the Wildlife Department for further action,” he said.
