
Gill Club, Ghawaddi, and Neeta Club, Rampur, will face off against each other for the seniors’ title of 16th JST Olympian Prithipal Singh Hockey Festival at Jarkhar. The junior category final will be played between Kila Raipur Hockey Centre and HTC Rampur.
Both the finals will be played late on Sunday.
The tournament, organised by Mata Sahib Kaur Sports Charitable Trust, saw exciting action in the semi-finals, with players displaying remarkable skill, speed and fighting spirit.
To reach the final, Neeta Club outclassed hosts Jarkhar Hockey Academy 6-4 in a thrilling goal fest. In the second semifinal, Gill Club defeated Amargarh Hockey Centre 4-2 en route to their maiden final. Gill Club goalkeeper Rajdeep Singh was the hero of the match with brilliant saves at crucial moments.
The junior semifinals were equally gripping. Kila Raipur Hockey Centre edged past Jarkhar Academy 4-3 in a fiercely contested encounter that went down to the wire. Kasampreet Singh’s outstanding performance earned him the hero of the match award.
Continuing their giant-killing run, HTC Rampur produced yet another upset by prevailing over the highly fancied Guru Teg Bahadur Academy, Charadi, 2-1 to storm into the final. Rajveer Singh played a pivotal role in the victory and was adjudged hero of the match.
The tournament saw generous support for grassroots hockey. International hockey player Kamalpreet Singh Chahal announced donation of 50 hockey sticks to Jarkhar Hockey Academy.
