MANILA, Philippines — Barangay Ginebra shoots for its fifth straight win and a chance to closer to securing a top 4 finish when it battles fast-fading Titan Ultra in the main game of the PBA Season 50 Commissioner’s Cup on Sunday at the Araneta Coliseum.
The Gin Kings are coming off a 115-108 win against the Blackwater Bossing to grab a share of second spot with NLEX Road Warriors at 6-2.
They battle the Giant Risers (2-6) at 7:30p.m.
The opening game at 5:15 p.m. features Converge (3-6) and Phoenix (5-3), two teams also fighting for a top 8 spot for the playoffs.
As of posting time, it is unsure if veteran big man Japeth Aguilar could play for Ginebra after leaving the game early of the fourth quarter of their game against the Bossing.
The 6-9 Aguilar fell hard on the floor after colliding with Blackwater’s heavyweight import Robert Upshaw III. He left the venue shortly thereafter, and was brought to a nearby hospital for further medical attention.
Still, Ginebra seems to be peaking at the right time, winning four straight games after a slow start for the conference.
Justin Brownlee is expected to get plenty of help from Scottie Thompson, RJ Abarrientos, Troy Rosario and Stephen Holt.
Meanwhile, Converge, coming off a king-sized upset of TNT a few days back, welcome returning import Donovan Smith against Phoenix.
Smith, the beefy import, played for Phoenix during the 2025 season.
The 6-9 Smith is taking the spot of seven-foot American Kylor Kelly.
Smith averaged over 30 points and 11 rebounds during his stint with Phoenix, numbers that will augur well for Converge, which is looking to sweep its remaining games in the elimination.
But Phoenix is no easy opponent, having won its last two games, while being the first team to hand Rain or Shine its first loss this conference.
The Elasto Painters won their first seven games this conference before the Fuel Masters stop them dead on the tracks with a narrow 87-83 win.
