Ginebra out to finish off ROS

BARANGAY Ginebra and TNT look to finish off their respective opponents in Game 5 of their PBA Season 50 Commissioner’s Cup semifinals series on Sunday at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.

The Gin Kings take on the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters at 5:15 p.m., followed by the 7:30 p.m collision between the Tropang 5G and the Meralco Bolts.

The wards of coach Tim Cone took a 3-2 series lead after beating Rain or Shine, 111-104, thanks to their dynamic duo of Justin Brownlee and RJ Abarrientos.

Brownlee tallied 32 points, six rebounds, six assists and four steals, while Abarrientos, the leading Bedt Player of the Conference candidate, had 31, highlighted by four triples, while grabbing four rebounds and eight assists.

Another win in Game 6 pushes Ginebra back to the Finals, but a loss sends the two squads to a sudden death which will be slated next Wednesday.

Cone knows no series lead is safe, especially against a back-against-the-wall ROS, which is bidding to end its decade-long title drought this conference.

“We’re not going to be happy with this win. We’ve been in this situation before. We led 3-2 and then got beat. Once by San Miguel, once by TNT,” said Cone after Friday’s Game 5 win.

“It’s too easy to get euphoric with the 3-2 lead. We’re not. A lot of things went our way tonight (Wednesday), which is great, we’re fortunate, but we have to move on.”

Meanwhile, TNT looks to build on its 103-95 win with another decisive victory against Meralco as well.

Import Chris McCullough erupted for 42 points, 17 in a major fourth quarter run to turn the tables against Meralco last Friday.
