
Kota Kinabalu: The Ginger Cup 2.0 Pickleball Tournament concluded on Aug 31 at RE.PLAY Karamunsing after two days of competitive matches, camaraderie and sportsmanship.
Held on Aug 30 and 31, the tournament featured 144 teams competing in four categories — Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles, Mixed Doubles and Veterans 80+ Doubles.
The tournament was co-organised by RE.PLAY Pickleball Club Karamunsing and sanctioned by the Kota Kinabalu Pickleball Association (KKPA), with Gleneagles Hospital Kota Kinabalu as the Official Medical Partner.
The champions were Alex Sii Leong Fui and Lau Chuan Peng in the Men’s Doubles; Han Hui Nee and Sitti Noorashikin Basali in the Women’s Doubles; Han Hui Nee and Jeremiah Tsen Siang Yie in the Mixed Doubles; and Kartini Sudin and Smith Robert in the Veterans Mixed Doubles 80+ category.
The organisers congratulated all winners and participants, while thanking everyone who contributed to the success of the second edition of the tournament.
Beyond the competition, Ginger Cup 2.0 brought together members of the local pickleball community in a friendly environment, strengthening bonds through sport.
The committee said the strong participation and positive response reflected the growing interest in pickleball and its ability to bring people from different backgrounds together through healthy competition and sportsmanship.
The organisers also announced plans to return with Ginger Cup 3.0 next year, with the aim of making the tournament bigger and better.
