After investing seven years in a relationship filled with gifts, financial support, and shared memories, a Malaysian man now finds himself questioning whether it's worth continuing. His long-time girlfriend recently accused him of being stingy—an allegation that left him both stunned and confused, considering the time, effort, and money he claims to have poured into their relationship.

According to a personal account he shared anonymously, he had always taken the lead in covering daily expenses, including fuel, parking, and meals during their outings. Special occasions were marked by generous financial gestures, such as cash transfers to her bank account, allowing her to choose her own gifts. For her birthdays alone, he noted sending RM1,200 and increasing the amount each year.

In addition to these regular contributions, he also extended financial help on several occasions. On New Year’s Eve in 2022, he covered RM1,600 for her hair treatment at a high-end salon. Then in October 2024, he lent her over RM3,000 to take a professional examination for career advancement. Both instances were based on promises of repayment, yet no money was ever returned.

Despite his continued support, she allegedly began criticizing him for being too tight with his finances. The tipping point came when she compared him unfavorably to other men who buy their partners luxury handbags costing RM5,000 to RM15,000 annually. He explained that his budget typically allows for gifts in the RM1,500 to RM2,500 range and that he would be willing to meet her halfway if she made reasonable choices within those limits.

Attempts to compromise—such as suggesting she use the birthday funds for skincare or a bag within budget—were reportedly met with resistance. The situation further escalated when he proposed splitting travel costs for a RM3,000 trip. His idea of each contributing RM1,500 led to accusations that he didn’t love her enough and prompted emotional distance from her.

Despite the strain, he confessed to feeling torn. The two had known each other since high school, growing up together through life’s ups and downs, including the challenges of the pandemic. While walking away feels like giving up on years of history, staying in the relationship has become emotionally exhausting.

Now caught between loyalty and self-respect, he is contemplating whether to continue enduring the pressure or end things once and for all.
