Give Like Dolly Day charity event announced after singer’s death

  • Dolly Parton's charity has announced “Give Like Dolly Day”, a new annual fundraising initiative set for 25 September in memory of the country music star, who died last month at the age of 80 following a battle with cancer.
  • The annual event aims to raise funds for Parton's Imagination Library, a project that fosters a love for reading by delivering free, high-quality books each month to children under the age of five.
  • First established in 1995 in honour of Parton's father who was unable to read or write, the programme has delivered over 300 million books across five countries, including the UK, the US, Canada, Australia, and Ireland.
  • Jeff Conyers, president of The Dollywood Foundation, stated the campaign will help put books into the hands of children globally, supported in the UK by events at the British Library and Hobbycraft stores.
  • Over a career spanning more than 60 years, Parton sold over 100 million records, wrote 3,000 songs, and established a philanthropic legacy that prompted worldwide tributes from top music stars upon her passing.
