Go extends aid to 53 families in Valenzuela

SEN. Bong Go has called for stronger disaster preparedness and safer public infrastructure as he extended assistance to 53 families affected by a fire in Barangay General de Leon, Valenzuela City.

Speaking to the beneficiaries through a video call on Sept. 22, Go said recovery efforts after fire incidents should be matched by measures to prevent loss of life and better protect communities from future disasters.

“The life and health of every Filipino are important to me. As I have said, material things can be bought, and money can be earned if we work hard. But life cannot be purchased,” Go said.

“It is vital that we stay alive, and Filipinos are known for helping one another,” he added.

Go said the government must continue investing in emergency preparedness and disaster-resilient facilities, noting that communities need both immediate assistance and long-term protection from fires and other hazards.

He cited Republic Act (RA) 12076, or the Ligtas Pinoy Centers Act, which he principally authored and co-sponsored. The law mandates the establishment of permanent, disaster-resilient evacuation centers in every city and municipality nationwide.

Go also cited RA 11589, or the Bureau of Fire Protection Modernization Act of 2021, which he principally authored and co-sponsored. The law seeks to strengthen the country’s firefighting capabilities through modern equipment, enhanced personnel training and stronger institutional support for the Bureau of Fire Protection.

During the relief activity at the Barangay General de Leon Covered Court, Go’s Malasakit Team distributed financial assistance and grocery packs to the 53 fire-affected families, along with water containers, vitamins, shirts and school supplies.

Some beneficiaries also received sports equipment, shoes and a bicycle.

Go assured the affected families of continued assistance, saying his office remained accessible to Filipinos in need.

“My office is always open to you. As for me, I cannot simply sit in my office while you need help,” he said.

“Please, just call me Kuya Bong Go. I will serve to the best of my ability because serving is my passion, and I believe that service to the people is service to God,” he added.
