SEN. Bong Go’s Malasakit Team distributed relief to 146 families displaced by recent fires in Barangay Palatiw and Pinagbuhatan on Saturday, July 18.
The dual-site operation provided 102 families in Palatiw and 44 families in Pinagbuhatan with financial aid, grocery packs, water containers, vitamins, clothing, sports gear, and school supplies. Select beneficiaries also received shoes and mobile phones.
“To the families affected by the fire, I sympathize with you. What is important now is that you are safe and have support as you slowly recover,” Go said in a statement, emphasizing the urgency of immediate relief after sudden property loss.
Go, principal author of Republic Act (RA) 11589 (Bureau of Fire Protection Modernization Act) and RA 12076 (Ligtas Pinoy Centers Act), noted that these incidents underscore the need for permanent evacuation facilities and improved fire-response capabilities.
He refiled Senate Bill (SB) 173, or the proposed Department of Disaster Resilience Act, which seeks to establish a dedicated agency to coordinate disaster risk reduction, preparedness, response, recovery and rehabilitation efforts.
The senator likewise refiled SB 415, or the proposed Rental Housing Subsidy Program, which seeks to provide temporary housing assistance to families displaced by disasters, as they rebuild their homes or transition to permanent housing.
Go urged residents in densely populated areas to follow local fire safety protocols to prevent future outbreaks, reaffirming his office's commitment to continuous emergency support across the country.
“Let us always be careful and follow the warnings of the authorities regarding fire safety. The safety of every family should be our top priority,” Go added.
