Kota Kinabalu: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Sabah has detained two individuals, a civil servant and a former Chief Executive Officer, on suspicion of soliciting and accepting bribes amounting to approximately RM18,000.
Preliminary investigations found that both suspects allegedly conspired to commit the act around 2024 and 2025, and are believed to have received cash bribes in exchange for facilitating a company’s gold mining operations in one of the districts in the State.
The two male suspects, in their 60s, were detained at about 10am on Wednesday while present to give statements at the MACC Kota Kinabalu office.
Sabah MACC Director Datuk Mohd Fuad Bee Basrah, when contacted, confirmed the arrests and stated that the case is being investigated under Section 17(a) and 17(b) of the MACC Act 2009.
Both suspects will be charged on Sept 28 at the Kota Kinabalu Sessions Court.
