Kota Kinabalu: A total of 120 players turned up for a good cause at the SEC Charity Golf Tournament on Saturday, organized by Sabah Energy Corporation Sdn Bhd (SEC) at the Sutera Harbour Golf and Country Club.
Out of the RM200,000 raised through sponsorships and participation fees, RM150,000 will be distributed to the Sabah Charity Foundation. The remaining RM50,000 will be channeled to other charitable bodies in the state, to be identified at a later date.
Group Chief Executive Officer Datuk Ir. Ts. Adzmir Abd. Rahman stated that the tournament—themed “Swing with Purpose, Drive for Impact”—brought together sponsors, business partners, and participants to support charitable efforts while strengthening relationships through the sport.
“This initiative reflects SEC’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) commitment to addressing community needs and ensuring that state development efforts directly benefit the people of Sabah,” he said.
“The responsibility to develop Sabah naturally includes safeguarding the well-being of its people. There are families who need support to meet basic needs, children who require opportunities to continue their education, and individuals rebuilding their lives after a disaster.
“Meaningful assistance begins with understanding these needs, delivering aid with dignity, and managing it responsibly.”He added that this charity tournament complements SEC’s ongoing initiatives in education, welfare, and environmental conservation, which are tailored to the evolving needs of the community.
He also stressed that the confidence placed in SEC by sponsors and participants is a responsibility they take seriously.
“Every contribution is a trust. We deeply appreciate this trust and are fully committed to ensuring that all donations are managed responsibly and channeled strictly to their designated charitable purposes.
He expressed his sincere appreciation to Platinum sponsor Sepangar Bay Power Corporation Sdn. Bhd.; Gold sponsors Supreme LNG, Gamuda Berhad, and Sistem Konsult Sdn. Bhd.; as well as all Silver sponsors, contributors, and teams who participated in making the tournament and charity drive a success.
He also noted that next year’s tournament will likely be expanded to accommodate those who missed out on this year’s event.
