In a significant move to diversify its academics, Government Arts and Sports College, Jalandhar, has announced the commencement of two new undergraduate professional courses: BCA+MCA (4+1years) B.Com+M.Com( 4+1 years) from the 2026-27 session.
The introduction of these courses marks a transition for this institution which has long been a hub for sports excellence in the region. The college, now a constituent college of The Maharaja Bhupinder Singh Punjab Sports University (MBSPSU), Patiala, continues to add new features in infrastructure and allied facilities and boasts of newly built synthetic handball ground equipped with international standards.
Apart from this, the college already has synthetic athletics track, basketball courts, badminton court, boxing ring, swimming pool and gymnastic hall. There is a physical fitness centre with techno gym equipment available for use of students, a well-furnished computer, anatomy and physiology labs and an air-conditioned library for the use of students.
Teaching is facilitated with smart classrooms, e-podium, projectors and other smart devices. It is noteworthy that students can access all these international standard facilities at no extra cost than nominal college fee. Scholarships are available for SC students and national and state medallists. The college remains committed to making high-quality education and sports facilities accessible and available to a broader demographic.
Prospective students can apply for these new streams starting this month. Principal Dr Ranbir Singh noted that while the college remains committed to its more than 30 acre lush green campus and international-standard playgrounds, the addition of BCA+MCA (4+1years) and B.Com+M.Com( 4+1 years) will ensure that students are prepared for the demands of the digital revolution. He further added that all the courses of the college are aligned with the New Education Policy 2020. The college already offers established programs such as B.A., B.P.E.S., PG Diploma in Yoga and M.Sc. (Yoga) which have been running successfully with students of the college achieving merit at university level exams.
