Govt officials visit injured OFWs in Saudi attack

PHILIPPINE Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Raymond Balatbat and Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac visited overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who survived the Oct. 10 terrorist attacks at the King Khalid International Airport.

Also present during the visit on Oct. 27 were Migrant Workers Undersecretary Jainal Rasul Jr., and labor officials Dominador Salanga, Solaiman Mutia and Geraldine Mendez.

The Oct. 10 incident marked the third and deadliest attack targeting the prominent Riyadh aviation hub within a single week. The Saudi General Authority of Civil Aviation reported that the projectile strikes — claimed by Yemen-based Houthi forces using a combination of drones, cruise missiles and ballistic missiles — killed at least 13 individuals and wounded over 300 others.

Among the fatalities were citizens from the United States, Egypt, Bangladesh, Jordan, Syria, Palestine, Sudan and Pakistan.

Despite the threat, Cacdac said that the government is not considering a deployment ban to Saudi Arabia, noting the country’s strong commitment to protecting foreign nationals.

The Philippine Embassy has issued a stern reminder to all Filipinos in Saudi Arabia to maintain heightened vigilance and strictly avoid military installations, oil refineries and crowded public sectors.
