A Grand National punter placed a £100,000 bet on a horse to win Saturday's race, shocking presenter Brian Gleeson.

The racegoer described his bet as "whopping" and the "biggest bet we've ever made," revealing that the horse he put all his faith in was Am Maximus.

The 2024 winner is among the bookies’ favourite to reclaim the crown, having been runner-up to 33/1 shot Nick Rockett last year.

Reacting to the huge sum of money, Gleeson said: "That's what you call a proper bet."
