As of 6 am today, 37 detainees who had managed to escape from the Bidor Immigration Depot last Thursday have now been successfully re-arrested. The Perak police chief, Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri, provided details, stating that 13 of these detainees were discovered hiding in a farm located in the Orang Asli settlement of Kampung Senta, near Bidor. Following their discovery, they were promptly taken into custody and transported to the Tapah District Police Headquarters.
Simultaneously, the Immigration director-general, Datuk Ruslin Jusoh, shared during a press conference earlier today that among those who had absconded from the Immigration depot last Thursday, a total of 10 illegal immigrants have been re-apprehended. Two of them were found and detained at the Batu Melintang Mosque, where they had sought water from the congregants. Local residents promptly notified the police about their presence, facilitating their re-arrest.
The initial escape involved a total of 131 detainees, consisting of individuals from Rohingya, Myanmar, and Bangladeshi nationals, who managed to break free from the Bidor Immigration Depot at 9:50 pm last Thursday. Unfortunately, one of the escapees is reported to have met with a fatal accident on the North-South Expressway at KM335.
The successful re-arrests highlight the collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies to ensure the safety and security of the community. Authorities have been actively pursuing and locating the escapees, leading to these positive outcomes. The discovery of detainees hiding in the Orang Asli settlement and the apprehension of others seeking refuge at a mosque demonstrate the vigilance and cooperation between the public and law enforcement.
Efforts are ongoing to track down and bring to justice the remaining individuals who are still at large. The incident serves as a reminder of the challenges faced by immigration authorities in maintaining the security of detention facilities and the importance of public involvement in ensuring swift responses to such incidents.
