Finally, after a wait of two and a half years since Rockstar Games unveiled the first Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer, GTA 6 pre-orders have launched in the UK. After much anticipation, millions of fans rushed to secure a copy of the highly awaited game, with Amazon in the US selling out within hours of it going live.
You can choose between two editions of the game – a Standard Edition and an Ultimate Edition, with the latter only available to pre-order at the PlayStation Store and Xbox Store. Other retailers, including Amazon, Argos, Game and Very have the Standard Edition available to pre-order.

I’ve just had a comb back through the release strategy for GTA 5, and it seems that, while pre-orders opened on 5 November 2012, a second trailer didn’t launch until 9 days later on 14 November. So maybe the third trailer will drop next week?
Are there any GTA 6 pre-order discounts?

You can save a few pence by pre-ordering at ShopTo – the retailer is selling the game for £69.85, but it’s not a massive saving.

Could the GTA 6 trailer 3 still drop today?
14:00 , Alex LeeMaybe it’s wishful thinking, but opening pre-orders without a third trailer seems like a wild decision. I still have my fingers crossed for a new GTA 6 trailer to drop at 3pm today (that’s an hour from now).
Interestingly, YouTube itself may have teased a third trailer release today. Earlier this week, YouTube's official account commented “consider us busy june 25th”, underneath Rockstar's second GTA 6 trailer, prompting speculation that a third trailer could arrive on the same day pre-orders went live.

Physical copies of GTA 6 a disc could be coming after all
13:30 , Alex LeeA games insider at Polish site PPE has claimed that a physical version of Grand Theft Auto 6 with a disc will be coming later this year.
The insider claims the code-in-a-box edition is only the first production run, created to avoid leaks. According to the publication, disc versions for both PS5 and Xbox Series X will begin shipping in December, once the initial stock sells out.
The insider previously leaked the release dates of physical editions for Oblivion Remastered, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds on Switch 2 and Microsoft Flight Simulator on PS5.
This is just a rumour now, so take it with a pinch of salt.
There are even more bonuses for pre-ordering the Ultimate Edition

The subscription includes a monthly GTA$500,000 deposit for GTA Online, exclusive discounts on vehicles, access to a rotating library of Rockstar Games titles and bonus in-game cash if you buy Shark Cards, Rockstar's optional microtransactions for GTA Online.
The free month can be redeemed immediately after pre-ordering, but Rockstar says the subscription will automatically renew at the standard monthly rate unless you cancel it.
Sony says GTA 6 will play best on PS5
12:30 , Alex LeeIn a new blog post, Sony said GTA 6 would “play best on PS5”. According to the company, this is because of features like the DualSense controller's adaptive triggers and haptic feedback, the controller's built-in speaker and the console's ultra-fast SSD for near-instant loading.
“Thanks to the close partnership between Sony Interactive Entertainment and Rockstar Games, Grand Theft Auto VI will play best on PS5 by taking advantage of PS5’s immersive features to deliver a deeply engaging single-player experience when it launches on 19 November,” the company wrote in a blog post.
But that doesn't necessarily mean the PS5 version will outperform the Xbox Series X. Sony didn’t mention frame rates, resolution or any exclusive graphical features.
And while the PlayStation Store lists GTA 6 as “PS5 Pro Enhanced”, neither Sony nor Rockstar has explained what those enhancements actually are.
Game and Studio have now listed GTA 6
12:00 , Alex LeeTwo more retailers have set pre-orders live for GTA 6. Ultra-late to the party is high street stalwart Game, who now has the Standard Edition available for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, as well as independent games retailer Studio.
Unsurprisingly, there aren’t any discounts on the game at either retailer. You’ll still pay £69.99 for the Standard Edition.
Fans aren't happy that GTA 6 only comes with a download code
11:40 , Alex LeeIt's fair to say fans aren't particularly happy that the physical edition of GTA 6 won't actually come with a disc – just a download code inside the box.
Rockstar has yet to comment on why it’s taken the decision – I previously speculated (08.13am) that it could be due to the file size being too big for a Blu-ray disc.
And the did not even give a reason for doing it in their initial announcement.

Will GTA 6 be cross-play compatible?
11:25 , Alex LeeOne question Rockstar still hasn't answered is whether GTA 6 will support cross-play. That’s probably because – for now, at least – it’s totally irrelevant.
The developer has confirmed that the game will launche as a single-player experience only on 19 November, with no GTA Online mode available on day one.
Will there be cross-play when GTA Online launches? It would be a first. GTA 5 has no cross-play support, and nor does Red Dead Online. I know plenty of Xbox players would love to play online with their PS5-owning friends and vice versa, so I lie in wait.

Is there a GTA 6 Collector's Edition?
10:55 , Alex LeeWeirdly, not at the moment. So far, there are only two versions of GTA 6 – a Standard Edition and the Ultimate Edition.
I’m really hoping Rockstar does end up releasing a Collector's Edition with physical goodies, however. GTA 5's Collector's Edition included a steelbook case, blueprint map of Los Santos, security deposit bag, snapback cap and a collection of in-game bonuses.

When will GTA 6 come to PC?
10:40 , Alex LeeRockstar hasn't announced a PC version of GTA 6, and I’m not expecting it will for quite a while.
GTA 5 launched on PS3 and Xbox 360 in September 2013 before arriving on PC roughly a year-and-a-half later. Red Dead Redemption 2 made the jump to PC a year after it launched on the console.
While that doesn't necessarily mean GTA 6 will take that long to come to PC, the precedent is there. PC gamers shouldn’t expect GTA 6 to arrive on Steam until the end of 2027.
GTA 6 is starting to sell out at Amazon UK
10:25 , Alex LeeAmazon UK might be about to follow Amazon US in selling out of GTA 6 pre-orders.
I've just noticed that the retailer's listing no longer has the usual yellow pre-order button. Instead, you now have to click through to “See all buying options”, which is something Amazon often does when stock is running low.
GTA 6 is now available to pre-order at Argos

As a reminder, The Standard Edition of GTA 6 costs £69.99, but you can upgrade to the Ultimate Edition once you download the game onto your system.
When will GTA 6 Online launch

Rockstar has described GTA 6 as a “single-player experience” at launch, with no mention of an online mode arriving on 19 November.
It’s not surprising. GTA Online launched roughly two weeks after GTA 5 back in 2013. Red Dead Online didn't arrive until several months after Red Dead Redemption 2. I predict GTA 6 Online to launch sometime in 2027.
It's your last chance to reserve a Steam Machine
09:50 , Alex LeeGTA 6 wasn’t the only thing going live this week. Valve’s Steam Machine launched earlier this week, and you can pre-order it on Monday.
The catch? You need to reserve your spot by 6pm today in order to secure one. Valve has a queue system in place to help stop scalpers.

GTA 6 will not launch on PC in November, so you won’t be able to play it on a Steam Machine until Rockstar launches it on PC, potentially in 2027.

As mentioned earlier, if you pre-order the physical copy, you’ll receive the game a week early on 12 November. This is just so you can pre-load the game early, however. Sadly, you’ll still only get to play it on 19 November on release day.
When could the GTA 6 trailer 3 drop?
09:17 , Alex LeeI’m really hoping Rockstar has one more surprise up its sleeve today. In particular, a brand-new GTA 6 trailer focused entirely on gameplay.
Nothing has been confirmed, of course, but if a third trailer does drop, I’d expect it to land at around 3pm in the UK. That’s when Rockstar has made several major GTA 6 announcements previously. We haven’t seen any new footage since trailer 2 last May.
What do we know about GTA 6 gameplay?
08:53 , Alex LeeVery little for now. The only trailers we’ve got so far have been narrative, so we’ve not seen anything on gameplay at all.
But by reading between the lines of the Ultimate Edition’s bonuses, we can piece together a few new gameplay details.
The one thing I spotted first was that you’ll be able to restore abandoned classic cars as part of a new questline. There are also references to fishing, fencing stolen goods, expanded vehicle customisation, off-road driving and gang compounds, where players can raid for contraband.
The game will also feature more detailed character customisation, including hairstyles, tattoos, makeup, nails and clothing, according to the Ultimate Edition bonuses.
Physical copies of GTA 6 will ship a week before launch

Rockstar has also said the early release is designed to ensure physical buyers can play at the exact same time as those who pre-order digitally.

What could the GTA 6 file size be?
08:13 , Alex LeeRockstar hasn't explained why GTA 6's physical edition ships with a download code instead of a disc. One possibility is that the game could have an enormous file size, which could require multiple Blu-ray discs.
While Rockstar Games hasn’t revealed the file size for GTA 6 just yet, Analysts think it could land somewhere between 200-300GB,
That would be massive – Hogwarts Legacy had an 80GB file size, while both The Last of Us: Part 1 Remake and Cyberpunk 2077 had a roughly 100GB file size at launch.

Can you buy a physical edition of GTA 6?

Retailers are slowly listing GTA 6 online for pre-order. While you can’t get a physical copy of the Ultimate Edition, you can pick up the Standard Edition for your shelf. The question is: should you?
Oddly, while you can buy a physical version of the game, you’re really only paying for the box. Rockstar Games has revealed that physical copies will come with a download code inside, rather than a disc. You’ll still get the same pre-order bonuses, however.
Because the physical and digital Standard Editions cost the same, there's almost no downside to buying the physical one because you still get the pre-order bonuses, but you also get a box to display, and everyone loves a library full of game boxes.

The first GTA 6 trailer, released in December 2023, introduced us all to our first protagonist – Lucia and confirmed that we would indeed be heading back to Vice City.
It gave us our first glimpse at Leonida and showcased a wild Florida-inspired world, complete with TikTok-style vertical clips, alligators and crazy beach parties.
What could come in the GTA 6 collector's edition and how much could it cost?

At launch, the GTA 5 collector’s edition cost £119.99 in the UK. This was in 2013, when games were a lot cheaper – I wouldn’t be surprised to see it start from at least £150.
As to what it could ship with? The GTA 5 collector’s edition launched with a steelbook, a blueprint map of Los Santos, a snapback cap and exclusive vehicles. Personally? I’d love a life size version of that pink flamingo.
How GTA 6's release timeline has changed
Monday 22 June 2026 21:30 , Alex LeeIf it feels like we've been waiting forever for GTA 6, that's because we have.
The launch of GTA 6 has been an absolute saga. Rumours of a delay first emerged in early 2024, with reports suggesting the studio was falling behind schedule. Despite repeated assurances from Take-Two boss Strauss Zelnick that the game would be worth the wait, GTA 6 has slipped twice, first to May 2026 and then again to its current 19 November release date.
In February 2024, Rockstar mandated a full return to the office for its staff. While the company cited quality and security as reasons, sources told Kotaku it was also driven by mounting pressure to stay on schedule for GTA 6.
At the time, Kotaku reported that while early 2025 had once been possible, the studio was now aiming for an Autumn 2025 launch – a sentiment echoed by Zelnick during earnings calls throughout the year. In December 2024, Zelnick teased the game as “extraordinary and worth waiting for,” adding that it would be “breathtaking.”
That timeline was finally upended when Rockstar officially confirmed a delay, setting a new release date of 26 May 2026. But of course that release date didn’t stick either.
On 6 November 2025, Rockstar punted the game’s release a full year into the future. Finally landing on a release date of 19 November. The news came amid accusations of union-busting, when Rockstar controversially fired 31 workers the studio claims had shared confidential information.
Will GTA 6 come to Nintendo Switch 2?
Monday 22 June 2026 19:30 , Alex LeeRockstar hasn’t said anything specific about whether GTA 6 will be available on the Nintendo Switch 2, but Zelnick has previously said the Switch’s audience has broadened and that “we actually would fully expect to support Switch [2]”. This was stated before the Switch 2 had launched, and was in regards to Take-Two supporting it more generally, however, rather than for GTA 6 direct. If it does come to the Switch 2, it’ll almost certainly be well after the main launch.
Who are the main characters in GTA 6?
Monday 22 June 2026 17:03 , Alex LeeThe two main protagonists are Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos. Jason is a former soldier working for local drug runners in the Keys, while Lucia has just been released from Leonida Penitentiary and is looking for a way to turn her life around.
Cal Hampton is Jason’s friend and an associate of Brian Heder. He is described as living “at the low tide of America” and spends his time listening to Coast Guard communications while drinking at home. Brian Heder is a veteran drug smuggler from the Keys. He runs a boat yard with his third wife, Lori, and is allowing Jason to live rent-free at one of his properties in exchange for help with local shakedowns.
Boobie Ike is described as a Vice City legend who owns a strip club, recording studio and property portfolio, while Dre’Quan Priest is said to be an aspiring music mogul who runs Only Raw Records and is focused on building his label’s reputation in the local music scene.
Real Dimez is a rap duo made up of Bae-Luxe and Roxy. They are described as using their time shaking down dealers to fund their music careers and grow their social media following. They are signed to Only Raw Records. Raul Bautista is described as a seasoned bank robber who is always on the hunt for new talent.

Monday 22 June 2026 16:03 , Alex LeeLeonida is Rockstar's fictional take on Florida, with Vice City at the centre, returning as the main location. But while Vice City is the main location, GTA 6 is much bigger than a city map. The state of Leonida looks vast, with plenty to explore outside the city.
The game includes locations like the Leonida Keys – a tropical island chain – and Grassrivers, a sprawling swamp region. There's Port Gellhorn, a faded coastal town with run-down shops and motels, and Ambrosia, which is dominated by a sugar refinery and a biker gang. Then there’s Mount Kalaga, a mountainous rural area in the north.
Compared to GTA 5's Los Santos and Blaine County, GTA 6 looks several times larger and more diverse. There is even speculation that the inclusion of Mount Kalaga and references to Gloriana (a possible stand-in for neighbouring Georgia) could mean the game expands beyond Leonida itself.

Monday 22 June 2026 15:33 , Alex LeeWhen Rockstar dropped the GTA 6 pre-order date last week, the games developer also dropped a teaser. Except it wasn’t the trailer fans were all hoping for. It was a 30-second reveal of the cover art.
More than a year on from the release of trailer 2, a third trailer is nowhere to be seen. But with pre-order day looming, we’re all expecting Rockstar to release fresh footage to coincide with the launch.
Nothing has been confirmed by Rockstar, of course, but with GTA 6 launching on 19 November, there's still plenty of time for Lucia and Jason to make another appearance.
What's with all the fuss over the GTA 6 price?
Monday 22 June 2026 15:18 , Alex LeeDespite being asked numerous times about the price of GTA 6 over the years, Take-Two bosses have refused to be drawn on revealing how much it will cost.
Before the Portuguese retailer’s listings leaked, insiders suggested the game could cost up to $150 (£120) due to its reported $1bn to $2bn budget. After all, Rockstar would need to recoup the costs somehow.
To me, that seems unlikely. Although the prices of games are rising, with Nintendo notoriously selling Mario Kart World for £75 at launch and Microsoft bumping up the prices of Xbox games, will Take-Two really sell GTA 6 above the £100 mark? We’ll just have to wait and see.
How much could GTA 6 cost?
Monday 22 June 2026 15:04 , Alex LeeOver the weekend, a Portuguese retailer Fnac listed five different editions of GTA 6 online. The cheapest edition of the game was listed at €89.99 (£78), but there were also listings for €99.99 (£87), €109.99 (£95), €119.99 (£104) and €199.99 (£173).
Fans have been speculating that the listing for £78 will be the standard edition, while the priciest might be a collector's edition.
However, reputable insider billbil-kun has since poured cold water onto those prices, claiming the European Article Number (EAN) codes don't match Take-Two's usual products. With pre-orders opening on Thursday, we shouldn't have long to wait to find out whether any of these figures are close to the real thing.

Those SKUs are just placeholders bcz EAN codes (like UPC in US) aren’t belonging to Take2 traditional games prefixes

When is the GTA 6 release date?

Rockstar originally delayed the game, which was supposed to launch in 2025. At the time, Take-Two boss Strauss Zelnick said the extra development time was needed because of the game's scale and complexity, but that affording Rockstar more time was “a worthy investment”.
When will GTA 6 pre-orders go live?

This week, Rockstar Games will finally open GTA 6 pre-orders, and to say fans can't wait would be an understatement.
Pre-orders will go live on 25 June on all the major digital storefronts and third-party retailers, though it’s unclear whether there will be any special editions, or what pre-order bonuses will be available.
While Rockstar Games hasn’t announced exactly what time pre-orders will open, I’ve got two hunches – at midnight, or sometime in the afternoon. The cover art and pre-order date was announced at 2pm BST last week, and Rockstar’s pre-orders for Red Dead Redemption 2 for PC went live at 4pm BST.
