GWM Malaysia has officially opened order books for the GWM WEY G9 Hi4 HEV, adding a self-charging hybrid variant to its flagship luxury MPV line ahead of an imminent local market launch.

GWM ushers in the arrival of the HEV model to boost the strong sales trajectory of the initial plug-in hybrid GWM WEY G9 Hi4 PHEV. Currently, that model leads the RM200,000-and-above luxury MPV segment in Malaysia based on official registration figures and is approaching 2,000 customer deliveries nationwide.

By introducing a dedicated self-charging hybrid alongside the existing plug-in option, GWM aims to cater to buyers seeking executive-grade space and electric four-wheel-drive capability without depending on external wallbox chargers or public charging infrastructure.

Hi4 Hybrid Powertrain: 358 PS and 782 Nm from Dual-Motor Setup

Under the skin, the GWM WEY G9 Hi4 HEV uses Great Wall Motor’s Hybrid Intelligent 4WD architecture. The system balances the traction and cornering poise of all-wheel drive with the efficiency of two-wheel drive during steady highway cruising.

The mechanical setup combines a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine with a four-speed Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT), dual electric drive motors, and a compact 1.67 kWh hybrid battery pack:

  • Combined Output: Delivers a stout 358 PS of power and 782 Nm of torque, ensuring effortless overtaking and immediate low-end roll-on acceleration despite the vehicle’s substantial footprint.
  • No Plug-in Hassles: Because the powertrain relies exclusively on regenerative braking and internal combustion charging, drivers can refuel at standard petrol pumps without altering their daily commuting routines.
  • Intelligent Torque Split: The front engine and dual electric motors collaborate across multiple driving conditions, distributing drive dynamically to minimize wheel slip and maximize high-speed cruising stability.

First-Class Appointments and Active Noise Cancellation

Inside, the HEV variant retains the luxury executive appointments that define the WEY G9 experience.

The spacious three-row cabin is built around a low-NVH philosophy, incorporating Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) to isolate road roar, acoustic glass, and thick chassis deadening to ensure business-class quietness on the go.

Occupants are treated to plush Nappa leather upholstery, multi-way electrically adjustable executive lounge seating with ventilation and massage functions, an immersive high-fidelity surround-sound system, and intelligent multi-screen digital displays. On the safety front, the MPV comes equipped with a comprehensive suite of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and high-strength body architecture designed to protect all three rows of passengers.

Availability and Dealership Bookings

According to GWM Malaysia Chief Operating Officer Roslan Abdullah, adding an HEV variant allows the brand to give executive consumers and family buyers broader powertrain choice without compromising on cabin space, ride quality, or refinement.

Prospective buyers can now place a booking for the GWM WEY G9 Hi4 HEV at authorized GWM dealerships across Malaysia. Official retail pricing, final equipment grades, and delivery schedules will be revealed during the MPV’s formal market introduction in the coming weeks.
