'Habagat' affecting Luzon, localized thunderstorms over rest of PH

The southwest monsoon (habagat) would prevail over most of Luzon, bringing cloudy skies with scattered rain showers, and the rest of the country would have localized thunderstorms, the state weather agency Pagasa said Saturday morning.

In its 3 a.m. weather bulletin, Pagasa reported that habagat would prevail over most of Luzon within the next 24 hours, bringing cloudy skies with scattered rains or thunderstorms to the Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Batanes, Cagayan, Zambales, Bataan, Tarlac, and Pampanga.

Metro Manila, Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon), the rest of Cagayan Valley, and the rest of Central Luzon will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.

The rest of the country would have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms, Pagasa added.

Pagaga is also monitoring a tropical typhoon outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), a tropical depression, and a low-pressure area just around the PAR  – all of which have no direct effect on any part of the country.

As of 3 a.m., Typhoon Saudel was located 2,710 kilometers east of Northern Luzon, moving northwestward at 25kph, with maximum sustained winds of 130kph near the center and gustiness of up to 160kph.

Meanwhile, the tropical depression developed over northeastern Mindanao had maximum sustained winds of 45kph near the center and gustiness of up to 55kph, moving westward at 10kph. The low-pressure area near extreme northern Luzon is the remnant of Cyclone Neneng. (TMT)
