
MANILA, Philippines — A new tropical depression developed over the Philippine Area of Responsibility, enhancing the southwest monsoon and bringing more rain to Metro Manila and other areas in Luzon, according to the Philippine Atmospheric. Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
In its 4 p.m. bulletin,Tropical Depression “Neneng” was spotted at 1025 kilometers east of Extreme Northern Luzon.
“Neneng” has maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 55 kilometers near the center, with the storm moving northwestward at 20 kph.
The storm is expected to strengthen the ongoing southwest monsoon or "habagat,” which has drenched most of Luzon, including Metro Manila, over the past few days.
Meanwhile, monsoon rains are expected to affect the provinces of Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, Occidental Mindoro, and Oriental Mindoro; occasional rains for Metro Manila, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Abra, Benguet, Pangasinan, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Laguna, Rizal, and Antique and cloudy akies with scattered rains and thunderstorms in Negros Island Region, the rest of Luzon, and the rest of Western Visayas.
The rest of Visayas should expect partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms due to the southwest monsoon.
Localized thunderstorms are expected in Mindanao.
