SHAH ALAM – Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang has claimed that Pakatan Harapan (PH) is using Islamophobia as a political weapon after failing to capitalise on sentiments linked to Islam.
He alleged that the narrative is being driven by DAP following its gains in the 15th General Election (GE15).
In a Minda Presiden post on Facebook on Thursday, the Marang MP claimed DAP began promoting the "Green Wave" narrative after PAS emerged as the party with the most parliamentary seats in GE15, took control of four states and made significant gains elsewhere.
He also noted that Pas is represented in every state legislative assembly except Sarawak.
"The weapon of Islamophobia is being used by DAP after it failed to rely on a weapon disguised in Islam, using the Islamic brand through several groups with an Islamic image, such as Islamisation based on secularism.
"That is, implementing Islam selectively while using the term Madani in an absolute sense, as though it represents human nature without the guidance and correction provided by Islamic teachings," he claimed.
Hadi also alleged that some groups in Malaysia have aligned themselves with DAP while invoking the Quranic phrase Islam Rahmatan lil 'Alamin. He claimed they have remained silent in the face of wrongdoing, including economic issues affecting the public.
He further alleged that while such groups promote initiatives such as the Rahmah Sales programme, they have failed to act against those responsible for corruption and other misconduct that continue to affect the people.
Hadi described Islamophobia as prejudice against Islam and Muslims. He argued that such perceptions would not exist if Islam were understood through a moral and academic approach free from fanaticism, while recognising Malaysia's plural society and the historical position of Malay Muslims in the Nusantara region.
"There are those within DAP who maliciously claim that the Malays are also migrants and not the indigenous people. So where exactly did the Malays originate from?
"Every other race has its own place of origin. They fail to realise that the Nusantara people in Sumatra and the Malay Peninsula influenced the use of the name Malay as a label for followers of Islam, to the extent that the word Malay became synonymous with the word Islam," he said.
Hadi also claimed that some Malays have aligned themselves with DAP, strengthening the party's political influence. He accused certain Malay Muslims of labelling fellow Malays as racist for defending what they viewed as Malay Muslim rights.
"Instead, they remain silent and become silent devils in the face of DAP, which is fanatical and chauvinistic towards Chinese nationalism.
"Islam remains steadfast in distinguishing between racial fanaticism (asabiyyah) and love for one's race, which is a natural human trait regulated by the concept of justice for all mankind, while prohibiting oppression against anyone regardless of religion, race, friend or foe," he said.
He further alleged that DAP's role in the unity government had emboldened some of its leaders to challenge provisions of the Federal Constitution, including the position of Islam, the institution of the Malay Rulers and the national language.
"The PH government's decision to place DAP in Cabinet positions that facilitate the implementation of its political agenda to dominate this country reflects a situation that challenges the position of Malay Muslims in their own homeland.
"If left unchecked, Malay Muslims will one day face a similar fate to the Native Americans on the American continent, who were marginalised and wiped out in their own homeland.
"Then the famous Malay saying, 'Takkan Melayu Hilang di Dunia', will become nothing more than pleasant words eventually swallowed by time," he claimed.
