Dewan Rakyat Speaker says Hamzah Zainudin’s status remains unchanged as Parliament awaits formal notification from Bersatu or the opposition bloc.

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin continues as Opposition Leader for now.

Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul said his status and seating position remain unchanged pending official written notification regarding his expulsion from Bersatu.

Johari confirmed no formal notice has been received from Bersatu or the opposition bloc to date. He stated any decision on the matter would only be made after receiving such confirmation in black and white.

“So far, we have not received anything,” Johari told reporters after a Parliament breaking of fast event. He added that Hamzah’s status therefore remains the same.

The Speaker said he is awaiting developments and noted there are two sitting days left this week. He suggested further clarity may emerge next week.

“As long as we have not received anything, there is not much I can do now,” Johari said.

Earlier, Perikatan Nasional deputy secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan indicated PAS would assume the opposition leader post. He said the name of the specific Member of Parliament would be announced later.

Hamzah, the MP for Larut, was previously sacked by Bersatu following an internal party conflict.
