A 17-year-old schoolgirl allegedly died by suicide here on Saturday night over “harassment” on pending school dues by the school authorities.
The deceased was identified as Amjot Kaur Aulakh, who was studying in Disciplined Disciple International School, Fatehgarh Churian.
The family members said their daughter was “constantly harassed by the school staff, including the principal, due to fee dues up to Rs 20,000, causing her extreme distress and humiliation”.
Sarabjeet Kaur, Amjot’s maternal aunt, said Amjot consumed poisonous substance on the evening of May 22, which was also the last day she was called to the school.
Despite repeated attempts to contact the school authorities over calls and messages, there was no response from them till the time of filing the story.
An FIR was registered against the school staff in this regard.
