Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) workers, led by halka in-charge Baljeet Singh Bhutta, staged a protest today outside the strongroom at Mata Gujri School of Eminence, where the ballot boxes for the Sirhind-Fatehgarh Sahib Municipal Council elections are stored.
SAD workers alleged that the strongroom had been tampered with and raised slogans against the Punjab Government.
Tarun Kumari, the SAD candidate from Ward No. 11, alleged that the ruling Punjab Government could not digest her party’s projected victory and was deploying underhanded tactics to influence the election results. Senior Akali leader Harvinder Singh Babbal also expressed grave concern over the situation. He announced that to ensure the security of the votes, the party would deploy its own workers outside the strongroom to prevent any potential manipulation or high-handedness by government representatives.
The SAD leadership has demanded absolute transparency throughout the remainder of the electoral process.
Meanwhile, a SAD delegation met with Pooja Syal Grewal, the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of Fatehgarh Sahib. Grewal assured the delegation that the security cameras inside the strongroom are fully operational, ensuring robust security with no possibility of manipulation or discrepancies. She also informed the delegation members that they are welcome to verify and check the camera footage themselves.
