
Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Thursday announced free bus services for school and college students on electric buses, modelled after the Haryana Roadways system.
The Haryana Roadways student bus pass will be valid on these buses as well, he added.
Delighted to flag off 80 city electric buses from Panipat, serving five districts, the CM said these were not merely buses; they mark the beginning of a clean, accessible and modern transportation future for Haryana.
He also inaugurated an electric bus depot in Panipat on Thursday, built at a cost of Rs 7 crore. The construction of electric bus depots is currently underway in eight districts across the state, added the CM.
This electric-bus service will reduce dependence on petrol and diesel, while also curbing pollution, the CM said.
Currently, city bus services are available in 10 major cities, including Panipat, Yamunanagar, Karnal, Panchkula and Rohtak.
Saini announced that 650 standard-floor AC buses are being introduced for metropolitan cities such as Gurugram and Faridabad.
Haryana Roadways will procure 50 new electric buses for routes connecting Chandigarh to Delhi airport and from Gurugram and Chandigarh to major religious sites Such as Katra, Salasar, Khatu Shyam, Haridwar, Amritsar, etc.
“Over the past 11.5 years, 2,038 drivers and 1,004 conductors have been recruited to regular posts within the Haryana State Transport Service,” said Saini.
Also, seven new driver training institutes have also been established across the state to provide training to drivers of heavy vehicles, he added.
