The Congress has alleged that BJP workers were trying to buy votes in the municipal election by giving Rs 1,000 to voters during the polling for the Dharuhera Municipal Committee election on Sunday.
Leveling the allegation, the Congress candidate for the post of president of the Dharuhera Municipal Committee, Kumari Raj, maintained that BJP workers were openly giving Rs 1,000 per vote to voters in a desperate attempt to secure votes.
“The BJP workers are openly buying votes at the rate of Rs 1,000 per vote as the ruling party is not getting legitimate votes. A state of anarchy is prevailing, and there is no check on the goings-on here,” said the Congress candidate.
Meanwhile, a fake voter was caught while trying to cast a vote in Rewari. On being questioned, the man reportedly stated that he had come to cast his vote for the BJP after being asked to do so. The matter is being probed.
When questioned about both cases, BJP MLA from Rewari Laxman Singh Yadav remarked that the Congress candidate’s allegation regarding vote buying by the BJP for Rs 1,000 per vote was “just a poll stunt”.
“It’s not uncommon. Charges like this are levelled during elections. In fact, this is just a poll stunt on the part of the Congress nominee,” Yadav quipped.
Regarding the fake voter caught in Rewari, the MLA maintained that legal action should be taken against the person(s) committing the offence.
Meanwhile, Rewari Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Electoral Officer Abhishek Meena asserted that the elections were conducted in a peaceful, fair, and transparent manner, and voters exercised their right enthusiastically despite the scorching heat.
“As many as 72.4 percent of voters cast their votes in the elections for the Dharuhera Municipal Committee, while 64.8 percent exercised their right to vote in the Rewari Municipal Council elections,” he stated.
