Haze: Air quality in Serian still at hazardous levels early Sept 5

KUALA LUMPUR: Serian in Sarawak continues to record hazardous-level Air Pollutant Index (API) readings as of 8am on Saturday (Sept 5), with three other areas nationwide recording very unhealthy levels.

According to the Environment Department's Apims website, IPD Serian continued to record hazardous-level API readings at 376.

Three other areas in Sarawak recorded very unhealthy API readings, namely Kuching (279), Samarahan (267) and Sri Aman (259).

Another 24 areas recorded unhealthy API readings while 30 areas had moderate levels.

A haze emergency was declared in Serian on Friday (Sept 4) after API levels reached 519.

API readings between zero and 50 indicate good air quality, 51 to 100 moderate, 101 to 200 unhealthy, 201 to 300 very unhealthy, while readings above 300 are categorised as hazardous. - THE STAR
