Haze forces school outdoor activities to stop in areas with API above 100

ALL outdoor activities, including sports and gatherings, have been ordered to stop immediately in areas where the Air Pollutant Index (API) exceeds 100 as haze worsens across the country.

The Education Ministry said state education departments, district education offices and schools had been directed to monitor conditions closely and take necessary measures to protect students.

In Johor, all educational institutions in Batu Pahat have been ordered to close temporarily from today following the latest API readings.

The closure will remain in effect until conditions are deemed safe and further instructions are issued.

The ministry said home-based teaching and learning (PdPR) would be carried out where appropriate, depending on prevailing conditions and the needs of students.

Schools have also been reminded to suspend outdoor activities during periods of severe haze or excessive heat and monitor activities that could expose students to unhealthy conditions.

Schools in areas where API readings exceed 200 must be closed immediately, the ministry said.

Education authorities and schools have been told to continue monitoring local conditions and take further action where necessary. – October 7, 2026
