Haze grips Johor, with Batu Pahat hardest hit

SHAH ALAM, Oct 6 - Twenty areas in the country recorded unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings as of 7 am today.

According to data from the Malaysian Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS), Batu Pahat recorded the highest API reading at 186.

Kluang recorded the second-highest reading at 169, followed by Larkin (166), Segamat (165), Pasir Gudang (164) and Tangkak (163).

Nilai recorded an API reading of 160, while Seremban registered 156.

Kota Tinggi was also at the unhealthy level with a reading of 155, followed by Pengerang (154) and Bandaraya Melaka (153).

Putrajaya, Rompin and Balok Baru in Kuantan each recorded an API reading of 152.

Also recording unhealthy air quality were Cheras at 137, Indera Mahkota in Kuantan at 124 and Kemaman at 121.

Batu Muda, Bukit Rambai and Paka each recorded an API reading of 103.

Meanwhile, 43 locations recorded moderate API readings, including all areas in Selangor, while another five were at the good level.

API readings of zero to 50 are categorised as good, 51 to 100 as moderate, 101 to 200 as unhealthy, 201 to 300 as very unhealthy, while readings of 301 and above are categorised as hazardous.
