Almost a week after private divers recovered a headless body of a child, whose feet were tied with a rope, no one has come forward to identify or claim the body. The investigations are in a stalemate as “the identity of the boy who seemed to be aged around nine years” remains a mystery.
“We have got the post-mortem of the body conducted and while details are expected soon, there is no headway as for now as the body remains unidentified. Our efforts to trace the head of the corpse also hit a wall,” said Patiala SSP Varun Sharma. “We had intimated the nearby districts also, but till date no one has contacted us looking for a body of not in this age group who is reported missing,” he said.
However, Patiala police has started a probe to identify and investigate the matter after the headless body of a young boy was found from Bhakhra Canal near village Karkala, on June 9.
The legs were tied with a red nylon rope and the body was first seen by private divers who informed police. The mutilated body had a sharp-edged cut near the abdomen. “The headless body seemed to be just a day or two days old given its condition in the water,” said the divers who first saw the body.
The shocking recovery has the police on toes as the severed head of the boy is untraceable and despite private divers scanning nearby canal area, nothing has been found. Police are not ruling out any black magic angle, but are tight-lipped about the initial probe.
“Initial probe reveals that the body was found floating near Karkala village in Bhakhra canal when the private divers saw it. When the body was taken out, its head was missing pointing to murder. We are probing the incident and trying to identify the victim,” said another police official.
“Our teams have also got in touch with police stations upstream of the canal, but we are unable to join the missing links, since the body remains unidentified,” said Samana DSP, Fateh Singh Brar, adding that they have registered a case as per law.
