SIPITANG: A timber-laden lorry stranded on the road between Kampung Ulu Bole and Kg Meligan caused hours-long traffic delays for motorists heading to Pekan Sipitang on Saturday.
Kampung Ulu Bole resident Louis Lugas, 62, said road users were only able to pass after the lorry was towed to the roadside.
“These logging companies must suspend operations during heavy rains,” he said.
“Their heavy lorries are destroying our already fragile roads, making conditions worse for all road users,” he added.
He said the companies should repair the damaged roads before continuing operations.
“The drivers show no concern because their company covers all lorry damages. But their complete disregard for road conditions is unacceptable, despite numerous complaints,” Louis added.
The issue was recently brought to the attention of Sindumin Assemblyman Datuk Dr Yusof Yacob during his community visit to Kg Ulu Bole.
Residents urge authorities and community leaders to take immediate action to ensure road safety along the stretch from Kg Mendulong to Kg Long Pasia, which suffers frequent damage from logging lorries.
