SHAH ALAM - A fire swept through 2.8 hectares of hill forest near the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) and Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque earlier today, sending thick smoke across parts of the city.

The blaze occurred near the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Building, which houses the state government’s administrative centre.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department Assistant Director of Operations Ashrul Riezal Asbar said the department received an emergency call at 1.01pm and dispatched a team from the Shah Alam Fire and Rescue Station.

“The operation commander reported that the fire involved seven acres (2.8 hectares) of hill forest and did not affect any buildings.

“There were also no injuries or fatalities,” he said.

Ashrul Riezal said firefighters used fire beaters and a vehicle-mounted water pump to extinguish the blaze.

The operation involved 10 officers and personnel, supported by a Fire Rescue Tender, Light Fire Rescue Tender and water tanker.

Footage shared on Threads showed flames burning intensely near the Jais compound.
