
Ahead of the urban body polls scheduled for May 17, as many as 124 police personnel have been deployed across Shimla to ensure that the elections are held smoothly. The total personnel deployed include 62 police and 62 homeguards, who will ensure peaceful, fair and safe elections.
Voting will be held from 7 am to 3 pm and the result will be declared on May 31.
A police briefing was also held in Shimla on Saturday under the chairmanship of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shimla, Gaurav Singh, at his office, during which necessary instructions were issued regarding their role in the elections, such as their duties and deployment process.
During the briefing, all personnel deployed at polling stations were provided with detailed information on the necessary “dos and don’ts" to be followed during election duty, in accordance with the Election Commission’s guidelines.
They were also given necessary guidelines regarding conducting fair and peaceful elections, maintaining law and order, treating voters with courtesy, and acting with caution and restraint in any unpleasant situation.
The SSP said the process of deploying police and home guard personnel to polling stations for election duty has also been completed and all the security arrangements have been made by the police to ensure safety and security during the elections.
He assured that the district police are committed to conducting elections in a fair and peaceful manner and there will be no lapse in security during the polls.
