The phase-I “House Listing Operation” (HLO) under the nationwide ‘Census 2027’ exercise has officially commenced across the district from May 15 and will continue until June 13, 2026, Deputy Commissioner Akash Bansal announced on Thursday.
Providing details about the initiative, the Deputy Commissioner said that specially appointed enumerators will conduct extensive field visits across urban and rural areas to collect information related to residential houses and buildings as part of the first phase of the census process.
Highlighting the use of modern technology in this year’s census operations, he stated that from May 15 to May 17, enumerators will first visit their allotted areas to prepare a “notional map” of the localities. Following this preliminary mapping exercise, all relevant information regarding houses and buildings will be digitally recorded through a mobile application and uploaded directly to the official portal in real time.
He further informed that after the completion of the notional mapping process by enumerators, supervisors will begin synchronising and verifying the collected data from May 19 onwards. Thereafter, additional information will be gathered in accordance with the questionnaire prescribed by the Government of India for Census 2027.
Assuring citizens about the confidentiality of the exercise, Deputy Commissioner Akash Bansal clarified that all information shared by residents during the Census process will remain completely confidential and will not be used for any purpose other than official planning and policy formulation. He stated that the collected data would help the government prepare more effective welfare schemes, public-oriented policies and development strategies for the country.
Appealing to residents of Kapurthala district, the Deputy Commissioner urged people to extend full cooperation to the government staff visiting their homes and provide accurate information to ensure the successful conduct of the census exercise.
