House okays bill changing policemen’s retirement age to 57

MANILA, Philippines — The House of Representatives on Tuesday approved House Bill 8702 which seeks to change the mandatory retirement age of uniformed police personnel to 57 from 56 years old.

“Increasing the retirement age allows the PNP (Philippine National Police) to maximize the government's investment in training and professionalizing its officers,” House Majority Leader and Ilocos Norte 1st District Rep. Ferdinand Alexander Marcos said in a statement.

“Also, by retaining experienced personnel for an additional year, the organization benefits from their specialized expertise and institutional knowledge. This continuity is vital for the leadership and stability of law enforcement operations,” Marcos said, adding that the measure “aligns the retirement framework of the PNP with that of the” Armed Forces of the Philippines.
