The USMNT won their second consecutive match at the 2026 World Cup with a 2-0 victory over Australia.
It is the first time that the USA have won back-to-back World Cup games since 1930 in Uruguay.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side were extremely impressive throughout the match at the Seattle Seahawks’ Lumen Field.
The USA have certainly made a statement to the other 47 teams at the World Cup, showing that they should be taken seriously.
Pochettino’s team have even impressed the media across the Atlantic, with many praising their performance.
What did the British press make of the USMNT’s win over Australia?
Several British outlets applauded the USMNT’s win against Australia during their World Cup coverage on Friday.
BBC Sport wrote: “The USA are playing with a real swagger here – neat, quick passing and constant movement is keeping the Australia defence on their toes.”

They also highlighted Crystal Palace defender Chris Richards’ dominant display against the Australian forwards.
“Chris Richards has been a magnet to the ball in his own box and heads another Australia cross clear,” the BBC added.
The Guardian also praised Richards for keeping a clean sheet: “I should mention that Chris Richards is once again playing an outstanding game.”
Meanwhile, the newspaper named Antonee Robinson and Folarin Balogun as two more standout performers.
“Robinson is a menace on the left flank. He beats the defense again and sends in a cross, but it goes out of play.”
The Independent claimed the USMNT were “flying” at Lumen Field, as they looked in control for the entire 90 minutes.
They commented at half-time: “The United States are flying at their home World Cup and are well on course for the knockouts as they lead Australia 2-0 at half-time…
“This US side really look in their pomp. A huge mountain to climb for the Socceroos.”
Finally, The Standard noticed a tactical adjustment for Weston McKennie: “McKennie is really thriving in his free role.”
The Juventus midfielder found space all over the pitch in the first half and threatened to punish Australia several times.
The variety of comments prove just how many positives the USMNT can take from the game into their next clash with Turkey.
